March 2017 Update

We have all heard of the saying “Self help is the best help!”. Yes, it is true. We need to be willing to help others to prove worthy of others help. The quoted lines below are the best way to put it.
“Go on your journey, be willing to work on yourself, be willing to learn, to study, to work and if you need help on the way, if you will ask for guidance, you will definitely receive it. It takes time, it takes work, it takes patience but in the end it is all worth it”

‘Ashvattha’ is always willing to be part of that universe to help such people. We will go any far to give a little push or at the least clear little hurdles for the people who are willing to working hard to reach their destinations.

‘Ashvattha’ was approached with request to help Kalpana, a 16 year old girl, who is suffering from Tonsillitis for the past 3 years. She comes from a poor family, her father passed away when she was 9 and her mother works as a maid to support the family. This young lady is doing her Intermediate now and tutors the kids during her free time. We are more than happy to help brave souls like this, who are worthy of every penny we donate. ‘Ashvattha’ volunteers visited her in Bengaluru, to know more about Kalpana and her family. On enquiring, we came to know that doctors suggested a surgery which would relieve her of this pain. Team ‘Ashvattha’ donated Rs.35,000 for her operation and we are glad to hear that the operation was successful. Kalpana is recovering now and we wish her all the best for her future.

A special Thank you to all the donors who made this possible!

February 2017 Update

We are all fond of happy endings to any stories. It is not just in stories, we also hope for a peaceful and fulfilled ending to our life’s journey. If old age is the end of one life’s journey, one should be able to sit, relax and revisit all the memories of their life and share the greatest experiences with their next generations. It is unfortunate that not every one is lucky enough to have such a life due to various factors like health and financial reasons.

Recently, we came across one such story where Madhavi, a 75 year old women, from Raigiri Village (near Yadadri Bonagiri) is going through tough times at that age. She comes from a poor family, with one blind eye and one eye with 50% visibility. To add this is miserable situation, she fell down on her way to washroom and broken her left hand shoulder. Doctors initially planned for a surgery, but considering her age and blood pressure they backed off on the surgery. She is taking temporary treatment where a local doctor cleans up her shoulder and puts a new bandage around her shoulder twice a week. Unfortunately, she cannot afford this treatment as well. One of our well wishers brought this up to Ashvattha’s notice and requested to help her. Team Ashvattha responded immediately and visited her place and donated a check of Rs.10,000 for her weekly treatments.

Hope she will get better soon and gain her strength to do her daily activities. As always, we are blessed to have great donors and volunteers who help Ashvattha to do more for the society. Thank you and God bless you!

Our 4th Anniversary

Anniversary – A moment to recollect an year’s worth of effort, contributions and more than anything the memories that made us happy, that taught us life, gratitude and satisfaction. This is how we define our Ashvattha’s anniversary. It also is the start of a new year with lots of motivation to reach out to the world and spread more joy.

Jan 26th – This is the day we started Ashvattha and it is hard to believe 4 years passed by. Every year, we try to come up with new plans to make this day more memorable. But sometimes, it is the simplest things that makes us more happy than the more complicated ideas. Everyone of us for sure can relate to some simple moments, like playing a game and winning a prize, dancing and singing like no one is watching, having a special lunch with friends, laughing out loud and just living in that moment. It is those moments that bring a smile even after years passed by. We took this occasion to re-live those moments with some kids from an Orphanage.

Our volunteers organized an event at Mahima Ministries Home, with 130 kids, to celebrate Ashvattha’s 4th anniversary. We conducted games like Kabadi, KoKo, Carroms, Chess, Musical Chairs, Skipping and so on., which are a combination of fun and talent to the kids. The kids also did singing and dancing to make the event more and more colorful. We had a competition for all these among the kids, makes it more challenging and driving their minds towards a winning spirit. These fun events were followed by a special lunch sponsored by Ashvattha.

As someone said, A picture is worth a thousand words! So, here are some for you, who made this event possible, who is behind the smiles of these kids, who contributed to making this event and every event in Ashvattha a success. Thank you all. As always, a special Thank you for our volunteers, who put their valuable time into this.

Charity sees the NEED, not the CAUSE – German Proverb

Ashvattha is and will always be grateful to all the donors you have realized the NEED and stepped forward to help and make sure the need is met. A famous Native American Proverb says “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. We certainly bear the responsibility of giving it back to the future generation in a better form.

Last month, our team received a request through one of our volunteer to help a 13 year old girl named Manjusha who is diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (A type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells).

Manjusha’s father Mahender works in travel agency at Metpally, Karimnagar. He earns Rs:5000/- per month and he’s the only source of income for his family. Manjusha was initially diagnosed with fever in Chelamada Hospital in Karimnagar and later referred to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad. Here after performing blood work and other lab tests she was diagnosed with 2nd stage of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Manjusha currently referred to MNJ Institute Of Oncology Regional Cancer Centre from Niloufer Hospital. Ashvatta volunteers met Manjusha and her father (Mahender) and donated a check of Rs:30,000/- for her further treatment. Hope this little girl will find the cure and fight the destiny to survive and find a better future!

“You are precious in every way, the sunshine in my day, the joy in my soul, and the love of my life” – Mom

Here is the story of a Mother trying to save the sunshine, joy and love of her life….

Vanita Sinha, W/O Premjit Kumar Sinha was expecting their first baby, after 10 years of a long wait. To their surprise doctor’s said she was carrying triplets and per doctor’s suggestion, she had to go through the multi-fetal reduction of triplets to twins. Due to the mother’s health conditions, twins (a boy and a girl) were born though IVF (In Verto Fertilization) and had a premature birth by almost three months. Due to their early birth, these little twins had the problem of respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis and extremely low birth weight (female with 595gms and male with 705gms). Unfortunately, the couple lost their little girl (with under-developed lungs) after a week of her birth. The male baby, a fighter by birth, is still fighting to gain weight and survive. He reached 790gms, but he has to reach 1.7 KG in 10 weeks to get back to normal.

Coming from a lower middle class family, the parents are spending every penny they have to save their little bundle of joy. They spend around INR 3,00,000 on the female baby and now spending INR 20,000 per day on an average to save their little boy. We came to know about this from one of our volunteers and the team came forward to donate INR 60,000 to pay the hospital bills. Ashvattha’s donors and volunteers are more than happy to help this little fighter and we sincerely hope he will gain the weight real soon and be a survivor to spread more joy and hope. We also wish a great strength to the mother and the family to face this difficult situation.

June 2016 Update

A book is a gift you can open again and again – Garrison Keillor

Remember those days when summer holidays were coming to an end and it is time to go back to school? Though ending holidays was the sad part, entering new class and meeting old friends was always most awaited.  Little things like buying a new bag, getting new books, spending time to cover those books always excited us. Those were the days when the smallest things in the world brought biggest smile on our faces. Now that we have moved to the real world and can’t go back to enjoy those little things, we decided to see that happiness on faces of children who can’t afford to pay for a new bag or buy new books. Of course, Happiness shared is happiness doubled!

One of our donors approached Ashvattha with a request to supply books and stationary to few poor students of Dharmapuri Government School, Karimnagar Dist. Our volunteers visited the school, gathered some details with help of school teachers  and prepared a list of items that those students need for one academic year. Ashvattha decided to donate a set of items containing a bag, 14 note books, a compass box, pens, pencils, writing pad, a dictionary and a plate for mid-day meals to about 72 students from that school. On June 25th these sets were distributed by the volunteers at the school and we couldn’t be more happier to see the smiles of their faces. We are also happy to share that few newspapers published this news in their Karimnagar edition.

July 2016 Update

“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice”

Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom – Nelson Mandela

Every request that comes to Ashvattha, has a painful story behind it, where the characters are fighting with all their strength to just Live their Life. No wonder “Life is a struggle”! At the end, we can only hope for a “Happy Ending” to every story. And, without doubt, it gives immense pleasure to be a part of that happy ending.
Here is one such story of a wife trying to save her husband and requested Ashvattha for help.

Team ‘ASHVATTHA’ received a request to help Mr.CH Ramesh (aged 36) who met with an accident and had to undergo a Brain Surgery in 2014 in NIMS Hospital, Hyderabad. Our Team stood by Ramesh’s family and helped them in 2014. By god’s grace surgery was successful and he was out of life threat danger.
But post surgery, Ramesh was completely bed ridden with paralyzed left leg and left hand. His wife works as a maid in near by houses in Sunipenta village (near Srisailam) and takes care of him . There is no one else in their family to take care of bed ridden Ramesh. Per Doctors suggestion, Ramesh’s wife wants to take her husband to Kerala for Ayurvedic Physiotherapy Treatment and was looking for financial assistance and contacted Ashvattha Team again for help.

Ashvattha Volunteers visited Ramesh in Sunipenta (near srisailam) and inquired about his current health status and donated a check of 40,000 INR (Forty Thousand) for his treatment. Hope Ramesh will recover soon and the family will live happily ever after.
